Harmonic announces a new firmware release for the Prostream ACE that includes Adaptive pass-through - a dynamic smart switching between decode/re-encode and pass-through modes in trans-rating operations.
The feature allows the optimal video picture quality per GOP, matching incoming video content to the desired output bit-rate. It applies to MPEG2-to-MPEG2 SD, HD modes, 50/60Hz, CBR/VBR input and output.
The ProStream 1000 can transcode up to 60 SD or 20 HD MPEG-2 channels to AVC without sacrificing video quality. In addition, the power-efficient design helps operators reduce OPEX and their carbon footprint, using only 10W per HD and less than 3W per SD channel.

Extending the award-winning ProStream 1000™ stream processing architecture, ACE™ is a truly converged high-density and high-quality platform for advanced processing and delivery of standard definition (SD) and high definition (HD) MPEG-2 and H.264/AVC video and audio. ACE is a highly versatile and ultra dense processing platform, with functions including:
• Any-to-Any and Any-to-Many video/audio transcoding
• Jünger Level Magic™ automatic audio level adjustment
• Statistical multiplexing
• Advanced re-multiplexing
• Scrambling and de-scrambling
• Forward error correction
• Integrated IRIS™ video/audio QoS measurement
• Digital program and ad insertion.
